Planetes was an animated science fiction series that ran on Japanese television in 2003 and 2004. It is one of the finest expressions of science fiction in any medium. This blog is dedicated to the show, its setting, and its characters.
The entire 26-episode run can be purchased in a DVD set that includes English and Japanese voice tracks. Amazon has it for less than 50 dollars.
I was watching Planetes and it’s a pretty beautifully drawn show. I’m not sure who does the character designs, but they look alright.
But then this frame flashed on for a second, and I was like, “…kenichi yoshida, bro, is that you”
and then I looked it up and it turned out he did the key animation for this show.
Nothing else looked Yoshida-like except for this frame, but man, that guy is good. Interesting to see even when he’s not animating characters he designed, he still has a certain style about him. I LIKE IT.
Relevant to this blog’s raison d’etre.
